The Australian Maritime
Officers Union was formed when the Merchant Service Guild and the
Australian Stevedoring Supervisors Association
amalgamated.
The AMOU has a proud and continuous history extending
back to the 1880's and is resourced to represent the professional
and workplace interests of members including: Masters and Officers
in the 'bluewater' and 'offshore oil and gas' maritime sectors,
Marine Pilots, Tug Masters, Bunkering, Dredging Industry,
Stevedoring Supervisors, Ferries crew, Port Services, VTS/Port
Control, Marine Tourism together with Professional/Administration/
Supervisory/Technical staff of Port Corporations and Marine
Authorities.

MICHAEL FLEMING'S RETIREMENT
A ceremonial luncheon was enjoyed by the staff of the AMOU on
the 10 April, to mark the retirement of Michael after 40 years and
2 months service with the AMOU. President Wayne Moore provided a
humorous outline of national and international events that
coincided with Michael's appointment in 1973. We then spoke at
great length of the significant achievements Michael has made for
the AMOU over the past decades. We all wish Michael a happy and
healthy retirement and look forward to seeing him on his return
from trekking across Spain.
