Apology to Captain Kim Lyons
In the AMOU’s March industrial report, an article authored by Glenn Walsh, titled ‘AMG Dampier pilots – General protection’s claim’ was published. In the text of this article, readers may have inferred that marine pilot and director of Argonaut Marine Group, Mr Kim Lyons, had been involved in a collision at the port of Dampier which resulted in a ‘couple of sizeable holes in a bulk carrier’. The article also suggested that Captain Lyons may not have been adequately or appropriately qualified or experienced to operate the vessel.
Captain Lyons has since contacted the AMOU and identified a number of significant errors in the article. The AMOU and Mr Walsh accept that errors were made in this article. The AMOU wishes to clarify that Mr Kim Lyons was not involved in a collision with the jetty at the port of Dampier and:
- was not involved in the collision described in the article;
- was a full-time marine pilot at AMG at the time of the collision; and
- has 16 years pilot experience.
The AMOU and Mr Walsh wish to sincerely apologise to Mr Lyons for any hurt or offence he may have sustained as a result of errors in this article. The AMOU and Mr Walsh acknowledge that Captain Lyons is an experienced mariner.
