A fabulous gala opening night was held once again at the Mission
to Seafarers/ 2011 ANL Maritime Art Show on the 7 October
2011. The exhibition gives artists the opportunity to explore the
relationship between humanity and the sea. The art show is in its
ninth year and it successfully raises awareness of seafarers
welfare and the work of the Mission through a visual expression of
maritime themes.
The winner was rather an unconvential untitled piece, but
referred to as the "international Code Signal" , a flat abstract
depicting the flag signals for ships by Sam George and Lisa
Radford.
The 2011 ANL Maritime Art Prize and Exhibition will be open to
the public daily from 12-7pm until 23 October at The Mission to
Seafarers Victoria, 717 Flinders St, Docklands. Entry by gold coin
donation. The exhibition can also be viewed online at
www.missiontoseafarers.com.au
Money raised from the maritime art exhibition is used to support
the work of the Mission, which offers assistance and a safe place
to rest or reflect for the thousands of seafarers from all over the
world.
